Cloud Engineering

Job Description

This position spans:

• Cloud platform and landing zone engineering
• Hybrid and multi‑cloud integration
• Secure workload migration and modernisation
• Automation, DevSecOps, and operational assurance

The role requires practical hands-on delivery experience, strong engineering judgement, and the ability to operate as a senior subject‑matter expert within highly regulated environments.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Delivery Collaboration

• Act as a senior hands‑on technical leader, mentoring cloud engineers and uplift delivery capability.
• Collaborate closely with security, application, data, and network teams to deliver integrated solutions.
• Define, document, and enforce engineering standards, patterns, and reference architectures.
• Provide authoritative technical advice into design reviews, assurance activities, and senior technical forums.

Cloud Platform Engineering (Hands‑On)

• Design, build, and operate enterprise cloud platforms and landing zones supporting IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS workloads.
• Engineer hybrid and multi‑cloud architectures, integrating public cloud services with private cloud and on‑premises environments.
• Act as a primary hands‑on engineer in one to two cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP), with working delivery experience across additional platforms.
• Contribute directly to platform uplift activities, technical remediation, and production issue resolution.

Migration & Modernisation Delivery

• Execute cloud migration programs, including:
  • Application discovery and technical assessment
  • Landing zone readiness and assurance
  • Workload migration, cutover, and optimisation
• Support modernisation approaches such as re‑hosting, re‑platforming, refactoring, and cloud‑native transformation.
• Develop and apply repeatable engineering patterns enabling migration and modernisation at scale across multiple portfolios.

Networking & Hybrid Connectivity

• Design and implement secure cloud networking, including:
  • VPC/VNet architectures, subnetting, routing, and multi‑account/subscription models
  • Hub‑and‑spoke and transit networking patterns
  • DNS services (Azure DNS, Route 53, Cloud DNS)
  • Hybrid connectivity (ExpressRoute, Direct Connect, VPN)
• Engineer and assure integration with Departmental on-premise and enterprise network environments.
• Troubleshoot and remediate complex hybrid networking issues in live environments.

DevSecOps & Automation

• Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for platforms and services using Terraform, Bicep, ARM, or CloudFormation.
• Engineer CI/CD and DevSecOps pipelines that embed:
  • Security controls
  • Compliance validation
  • Quality and policy enforcement
• Drive automation, standardisation, and environment consistency across all cloud platforms.
• Eliminate manual processes through programmatic and pipeline‑driven delivery.
