Job Description

This role combines hands-on design execution with strategic creative leadership. The successful candidate will oversee the development of high-quality print, digital and event assets while ensuring brand consistency, exceptional user experience and commercial effectiveness across all platforms.

Working closely with editorial, sales, marketing and leadership teams, the Head of Design will play a key role in shaping how our brands are experienced by readers, subscribers, advertisers, exhibitors and event delegates.Key Responsibilities

Creative Leadership

  • Own and evolve the visual identity of The Australian Mining Review and associated brands.
  • Establish and maintain creative standards, templates and brand guidelines.
  • Provide creative direction for publications, websites, events, marketing campaigns and new product launches.
  • Identify opportunities to improve design quality, user experience and brand perception.

Publications & Print Production

  • Oversee the design and production of The Australian Mining Review newspaper.
  • Manage the design and layout of the Australian Mines & Services Handbook and other special publications.
  • Ensure all publications meet production deadlines and print specifications.
  • Maintain high standards of editorial presentation and advertising integration.

Digital & Marketing

  • Lead the creation of digital marketing assets, EDMs, social media creatives and website graphics.
  • Work closely with marketing and editorial teams to maximise engagement, subscriptions and audience growth.
  • Contribute to website design improvements and user experience initiatives.

Events & Commercial Projects

  • Direct the creative execution of conferences, exhibitions, breakfasts and networking events.
  • Oversee event branding, signage, presentations, exhibition guides, programs and promotional materials.
  • Support commercial teams with advertising concepts, sponsorship assets and client-facing materials.

Team & Workflow Management

  • Manage internal designers and external creative contractors where required.
  • Allocate workloads and ensure projects are delivered on time and to a high standard.
  • Continuously improve creative workflows, systems and processes.

Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years’ experience in graphic design, creative leadership or a related role.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating excellence across print and digital design.
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
  • Experience designing publications, magazines, newspapers or large-format print products.
  • Strong understanding of branding, typography, layout and visual storytelling.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
