Data Engineer

Job Description

As a Data Engineer, you will play a key role in building, evolving, and maintaining scalable data platforms. You will recognise the strategic importance of data to the organisation and balance a strong understanding of business needs with deep technical expertise.

The role focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining data platforms that support data storage, processing, orchestration, and analytics. Your mission will be to deliver scalable, high-performance data pipelines and integration solutions, enabling data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to access high-quality data efficiently.

You will be technology-agnostic, working across diverse data sources and tools to ensure robust data flows, performance, and data quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable data platforms
• Collect, process, and analyse large and complex datasets from multiple sources
• Develop and implement data processing workflows using frameworks such as Apache Spark and Apache Beam
• Extract data from databases, file systems, and APIs
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure data accuracy and integrity
• Ensure data security and privacy through access controls and encryption
• Monitor system performance and optimise for availability and scalability

What We’re Looking For

• Experience with GCP and cloud-based data engineering services
• Proficiency in Python, Java, or Scala
• Experience with Big Data tools such as Spark, Flink, Kafka, Hadoop, Hive, Elasticsearch, and related ecosystems
• Strong understanding of data modelling, ETL, and distributed systems
• Excellent SQL skills and experience with relational and NoSQL databases
• Familiarity with AWS S3, Azure Data Factory is a plus
• Experience using Git and modern development workflows
