Principal Software Engineer

Job Description

As the Principal Engineer, you’ll sit ahead of several engineering squads, helping to resolve technical challenges, remove ambiguity, and ensure upcoming releases are well-shaped before work enters development.

This role is focused on technical leadership, architectural thinking, and cross-team alignment, rather than hands-on coding or people management.

What You Will Be Doing

• Leading early-stage technical exploration, spikes, and feasibility assessments
• Translating solution designs into detailed, delivery-ready technical scope
• Brokering decisions where squads have differing opinions or constraints
• Identifying blockers early and steering teams towards clear, aligned solutions
• Assessing and shaping platform designs across IBM Filenet, AWS (particularly Lambda functions) and SmartCOMM
• Ensuring non-functional requirements, integration considerations, and estimates are well understood before handover
• Working closely with Tech Leads, Technical BAs, architects, and delivery leaders to support smooth release planning

What You Will Bring

• 8+ years in Senior Engineer, Principal Engineer, Tech Lead or Architecture roles
• Strong background in solution design, systems architecture, and Java-based platforms
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to align multiple technical teams
• Confidence operating in complex enterprise environments
• A natural problem-solver who enjoys resolving ambiguity early and guiding cross-squad technical decisions
