Job Description
Role Overview:
We’re seeking a WordPress Developer with hands-on experience in developing custom plugins, building scalable themes from scratch, and optimizing complex WordPress sites for performance and security. This role is for someone who has gone beyond page builders and understands the internal architecture of WordPress, PHP, and MySQL.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain custom themes and plugins following WordPress coding standards.
- Architect solutions using custom post types, taxonomies, ACF, and Gutenberg blocks (native or custom).
- Optimize site performance using object caching, asset minification, lazy loading, and database query tuning.
- Implement REST API integrations and handle asynchronous JavaScript functionality.
- Migrate and deploy WordPress sites using CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions or Bitbucket Pipelines).
- Write secure, maintainable code with attention to cross-site scripting (XSS), CSRF, and other common vulnerabilities.
- Collaborate with UI/UX designers to translate static mockups (Figma/Sketch) into dynamic, pixel-perfect templates.
- Troubleshoot high-traffic WordPress environments, including NGINX/Apache server configuration issues.
- Work with staging environments, version control, and container-based deployments (Docker).
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of direct WordPress development (not limited to theme customization via Elementor, WPBakery, or similar).
- Proficient in PHP 7/8, JavaScript (ES6+), and MySQL.
- Solid experience working with Git (feature branching, pull requests, rebasing).
- Ability to write, modify, and debug custom WordPress plugins.
- Strong knowledge of WordPress database schema and query optimization.
- Experience with headless WordPress implementations using REST or GraphQL is a major plus.
- Familiarity with performance monitoring tools (New Relic, Query Monitor) and logging (e.g., Sentry, LogRocket).
- Understanding of SEO best practices and schema markup implementation.
- Comfortable with CLI tools like WP-CLI, Composer, and NPM/Yarn.
