Job Description

About the Role:

We’re looking for a WordPress Developer who knows how to move beyond plugins and pre-built themes. You’ll be responsible for building performant, secure, and scalable WordPress-based solutions — not just websites, but interactive experiences with custom functionality, third-party integrations, and clean, extensible code.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop custom themes from scratch using ACF, Timber/Twig, or Blade templating — not relying on page builders like Elementor.
  • Build and maintain custom plugins to handle project-specific features, following WordPress coding standards.
  • Create headless WordPress setups using REST API or WPGraphQL, integrating with front-end frameworks like React or Next.js.
  • Implement Gutenberg blocks using ReactJS and manage reusable components across projects.
  • Optimize websites for Core Web Vitals, particularly Largest Contentful Paint and Cumulative Layout Shift.
  • Handle WooCommerce customizations, including advanced product logic, checkout flow, and payment gateway integration.
  • Manage automated deployment pipelines using GitHub Actions or Buddy. Experience with version control and staging environments is expected.
  • Troubleshoot complex WordPress issues involving database queries, hooks, and legacy codebases.

Requirements:

  • Strong proficiency in PHP 8+, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and SCSS.
  • Solid understanding of WordPress architecture, WP-CLI, and database structure.
  • Experience with Git-based workflows, especially involving pull requests and code reviews.
  • Familiarity with MySQL performance tuning and query optimization in WordPress context.
  • Hands-on experience with security best practices, including sanitization, validation, and nonces.
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD, Docker (basic container setup for local WordPress dev), and reverse proxy setups (Nginx/Apache).
  • Experience with multisite environments, multilingual support (e.g., WPML or Polylang), and region-specific deployments.
  • Ability to write technical documentation and communicate technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience migrating enterprise-scale WordPress sites from other CMS platforms.
  • Familiarity with Jamstack architecture, especially integrating WordPress as a content source.
  • Knowledge of ElasticSearch or Algolia for advanced search features within WordPress.
  • Exposure to serverless functions (e.g., AWS Lambda) to handle heavy-lift background tasks.
