Windows Systems Engineer

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:
– Support and maintain a legacy Windows VM environment and its users
– Contribute to migration of researchers to a modern platform
– Manage day-to-day systems, network, and storage administration
– Troubleshoot infrastructure issues and optimise performance, availability, and security
– Collaborate with project teams to design and implement solutions
– Help build and improve a new computing environment

Required Skills:
Direct experience with XCP-NG (virtualisation tool) – Strong experience with Windows Server 2016+ and Windows 10+
and Experience with XCP-NG (preferred) or VMware
– Deep knowledge of Active Directory (Domain Controllers, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy)
– Experience with user administration, patching, and security auditing
– Extensive experience with virtualised environments (desktop/server)

Desirable Skills:
– PowerShell scripting and automation
– Infrastructure as Code tools (SaltStack, Ansible)
– Security tools (Defender, CrowdStrike)
– Experience in research/scientific environments
