Job Description

Role Overview:

We are seeking a seasoned WebSphere Portal Developer with hands-on experience in designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise-level portal solutions using IBM WebSphere Portal v8.5 or higher. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of portal themes, portlet development (JSR 286), and integration with backend systems via Web Services and REST APIs. This role requires active participation in architectural design, performance tuning, and customized UI/UX development with integration into SSO and LDAP environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop custom portlets using JSR 286 and WebSphere Portlet Factory or similar frameworks.
  • Customize and manage portal themes, skins, page templates, and navigation structures.
  • Integrate with enterprise systems using SOAP/RESTful web services, JMS, and database connectivity (JDBC).
  • Extend and troubleshoot the Web Content Management (WCM) components within the WebSphere Portal.
  • Configure and deploy solutions within clustered WebSphere environments with attention to scalability and high availability.
  • Work closely with DevOps and infrastructure teams to handle portal deployment, tuning JVMs, and troubleshooting performance bottlenecks.
  • Ensure security integration with TAM/WebSeal, LDAP, and SAML-based SSO providers.
  • Provide mentoring and technical guidance to junior developers.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with IBM WebSphere Portal Server (v8.5 or above).
  • Strong proficiency in Java EE, JSP, Servlets, JavaScript, and jQuery.
  • Experience with WCM customization, including authoring templates, workflows, and content libraries.
  • Deep knowledge of portlet development standards (JSR 168/286) and Portlet Bridge for JSF.
  • Proven experience integrating WebSphere Portal with enterprise identity providers.
  • Experience with WebSphere Application Server (WAS) configurations and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with portal caching strategies, Dynacache, and performance profiling tools.
  • Strong understanding of HTML5, CSS3, and responsive UI frameworks (e.g., Bootstrap).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
