Job Description
We’re looking for a Web Administrator who thrives in environments where uptime is non-negotiable, systems are never static, and end-user expectations evolve weekly. This is not a “set it and forget it” role — our web stack supports multiple client-facing portals, a dynamic CMS ecosystem, and several bespoke internal tools. You’ll be expected to dig beneath the surface of standard documentation, anticipate scaling bottlenecks, and handle both WordPress patches and server crashes without blinking.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and optimize our CMS platforms (primarily WordPress and Drupal) — plugin vetting, theme lifecycle management, security hardening, and version control workflows.
- Monitor and troubleshoot production web servers (Linux, Apache/Nginx, PHP-FPM); proactively address load spikes, SSL issues, and timeout anomalies.
- Own the web-based authentication flow — maintain SSO integrations (Okta, Azure AD), manage user provisioning via API, and audit token expiry behaviors.
- Collaborate with DevOps on CI/CD pipelines for frontend code deployments; understand the GitHub Action triggers and know how to reverse a botched push without breaking prod.
- Enforce caching strategy across edge (Cloudflare) and origin layers; use actual metrics to assess CDN rules, not just hunches.
- Write scripts (Bash, Python, or Node) to automate routine audits, content migrations, and scheduled backups — and debug them without handholding.
- Manage web analytics tag governance; coordinate with marketing to maintain a clean and intentional data layer.
- Ensure WCAG 2.1 AA compliance on all public-facing web properties, not just via automated tools — manual audit experience required.
Required Qualifications:
- 3–5 years of experience managing complex web environments (multi-site setups, high-availability clusters, etc.).
- Fluency with server stack diagnostics: journalctl, top/htop, curl, certbot, and php-fpm logs are second nature.
- Proven experience managing reverse proxies and redirects at the config level — not just via plugins.
- Strong understanding of web application security principles (CSP, CORS, XSS, CSRF mitigation) and actual implementation history.
- Experience with Docker and containerized web app environments — particularly for local dev parity.
- Can differentiate between a server outage and a DNS propagation issue — and communicate clearly about either to non-technical stakeholders.
- Comfortable editing database records directly via phpMyAdmin or CLI when necessary (with care, not chaos).
Preferred Experience:
- Previous work with enterprise-level CMS architecture (multi-region caching, content staging workflows).
- Familiarity with headless CMSs and static site generation pipelines.
- Experience integrating DAMs (Digital Asset Management systems) into CMS or frontend tooling.
- Contribution history to open-source web administration tools or plugins a plus.
