Visual Illustrator
Job Description
About the Role
We’re not looking for someone who just “makes things look good.” We’re building a narrative-first brand and need a visual illustrator who can think in systems, design with intent, and distill complex themes into intelligent, expressive visuals.
What You’ll Do
- Conceptualize and create visual illustrations for editorial content, campaigns, microsites, explainers, and social media with a distinct visual voice
- Translate abstract concepts (like decentralized systems, behavioral economics, or ethical design) into clean, readable illustration systems
- Develop and maintain illustration libraries, icon sets, and visual motifs that align with our evolving brand narrative
- Participate in content planning sessions and proactively pitch ideas that elevate storytelling through visual metaphors
- Work closely with motion designers to storyboard and co-develop animated visuals where needed
- Push for strong visual differentiation — no trend-following unless it serves the concept
What We’re Looking For
- A portfolio that shows narrative range — from minimal diagrams to expressive, hand-drawn sequences
- Strong grasp of visual pacing — how illustrations build context and rhythm within a content flow
- Comfort with abstract subject matter and the ability to synthesize research into visuals without oversimplifying
- Proficiency with Figma and Illustrator; bonus if you sketch or work in Procreate or Blender
- Familiarity with how illustration scales across web, mobile, and print without losing fidelity or clarity
- An eye for visual tension — you know when to let space speak and when to fill it
- Not required, but appreciated: experience with storyboarding, visual essays, or working inside a content team
