Job Description

We are looking for a highly pragmatic and detail-driven System Administrator to manage, maintain, and evolve our hybrid infrastructure environment. You will oversee a mixed estate of Windows Server and Linux VMs (both on-premises and in AWS), ensure uptime across critical services, and act as the escalation point for Tier 2/3 infrastructure issues. This role is hands-on, requiring deep comfort with scripting, configuration management tools, and security hardening in both regulated and non-regulated environments.

This is not a passive monitoring role. You’ll be the person other admins call when something breaks and they’ve hit a wall.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own system configuration, maintenance, and performance monitoring of Windows Server (2016, 2019, 2022) and RHEL-based systems.
  • Manage our virtualization stack (VMware vSphere) and collaborate with DevOps for AWS-based workloads (EC2, S3, EBS, IAM, CloudWatch).
  • Oversee patch management processes using WSUS, SCCM, and Ansible for both compliance and performance tuning.
  • Harden systems against intrusion and ensure compliance with CIS benchmarks and internal audit standards.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for enterprise backup, recovery testing, and disaster recovery drills (Veeam, Commvault).
  • Maintain Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy across a multi-site network.
  • Script process automation tasks using PowerShell and Bash; familiarity with Python a plus.
  • Collaborate with the Security team on vulnerability remediation efforts (Qualys/Nessus).
  • Lead root cause analysis for major system outages and drive permanent resolution.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 5+ years of experience in system administration with both Windows Server and Linux (RHEL/CentOS/AlmaLinux).
  • Proficiency with VMware vSphere/ESXi and experience managing virtual networks and distributed switches.
  • Experience with AWS infrastructure management, including EC2 provisioning, IAM policy management, and CloudWatch monitoring.
  • Strong command of PowerShell and Bash; demonstrable ability to write reusable automation scripts.
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (VLANs, subnets, firewall rules, DNS resolution, routing).
  • Direct experience with patching tools and centralized log management (Graylog, Splunk, or ELK).
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Ansible) for server provisioning and config drift management.
  • Comfortable working in regulated environments (HIPAA, SOX, or similar) with documentation and audit readiness.

Preferred:

  • Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, or Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA).
  • Experience integrating SSO (Okta, Azure AD) into enterprise applications.
  • Familiarity with container hosting (Docker, Podman) on bare metal or VM-based Linux hosts.
