Job Description

We’re looking for a System Administrator who thrives in complex environments where uptime isn’t optional and documentation actually matters. This role supports a mixed infrastructure of Linux (Ubuntu and CentOS) and Windows servers, split between on-premises and AWS. You’ll manage a network that includes a multi-site VPN, handle user access controls that go beyond basic Active Directory, and maintain rigorous compliance protocols for SOC 2 audits. This isn’t a role for someone who just restarts things until they work again—we want someone who understands why they work (or don’t), and can explain it.

You’ll work closely with InfoSec, DevOps, and Compliance to ensure systems remain secure, documented, and scalable. Ideal candidates will have experience managing infrastructure in a mid-sized organization with a hybrid cloud model and a preference for automation over manual patching.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, monitor, and optimize systems across physical and cloud environments (AWS EC2, VPC, S3, RDS).
  • Troubleshoot complex network and server issues, both Linux- and Windows-based.
  • Implement and maintain system-level security controls, including SIEM alerts, MFA policies, and endpoint protection.
  • Manage system backups (Veeam, AWS Backup) and restore testing procedures monthly.
  • Write and maintain infrastructure documentation that non-engineers can understand.
  • Work with developers to provision and maintain CI/CD environments (GitHub Actions, Jenkins).
  • Automate routine administrative tasks using Bash, PowerShell, or Python.
  • Enforce least-privilege access policies across internal tools and VPN gateways.
  • Participate in incident response and postmortem reviews.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of system administration experience in a hybrid cloud environment.
  • Strong experience with Linux systems (Ubuntu/CentOS) and Windows Server (2016+).
  • Proven experience in AWS infrastructure, including VPC, IAM, and CloudWatch.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Ansible).
  • Comfortable with shell scripting and basic Python for automation.
  • Experience managing directory services (AD, LDAP) and SSO platforms (Okta, Azure AD).
  • Working knowledge of firewall configuration and troubleshooting (e.g., pfSense, Fortinet).
  • Experience with log aggregation tools (e.g., ELK stack, Graylog).
  • Clear documentation skills and familiarity with Confluence or Notion.
  • Able to participate in a rotating on-call schedule (once every 4 weeks).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • AWS SysOps Administrator or Solutions Architect certification.
  • Familiarity with SOC 2 or ISO 27001 compliance frameworks.
  • Experience with containerization (Docker) and container orchestration (Kubernetes).
  • Knowledge of DNS management and email security protocols (SPF, DKIM, DMARC).
  • Prior experience supporting software development teams and their toolchains.
