Job Description

About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Web Developer who can build, scale, and maintain modern web applications that serve millions of users annually. You won’t be tweaking WordPress templates or managing legacy PHP. This role requires someone who thrives in a component-based architecture, understands hydration and SSR trade-offs, and can argue the merits of a streaming strategy without Googling first.

You’ll be expected to lead the technical direction of new features, push for performance budgets, and influence cross-functional teams in design and product without being asked twice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of performant, accessible, and SEO-friendly web experiences using React (or similar frameworks) with Next.js, Astro, or Remix.
  • Architect scalable frontend systems that support dynamic content rendering and API integrations at scale.
  • Collaborate with product managers and UX designers to translate real-world business goals into technical execution plans with clear trade-offs.
  • Own the decision-making process around routing, caching strategies (CDN, Edge, ISR), and analytics instrumentation.
  • Implement automated testing practices using Playwright, Vitest, or similar frameworks to reduce reliance on manual QA.
  • Mentor junior developers with code reviews that prioritize clarity, maintainability, and consistency over cleverness.
  • Monitor and continuously optimize Core Web Vitals scores across critical user journeys.

Must-Have Skills

  • 5+ years of professional experience building and maintaining complex, content-rich websites or SPAs.
  • Deep experience with React and Next.js, including server components, route handlers, and middleware.
  • Strong grasp of JavaScript/TypeScript fundamentals, including closures, async patterns, and module resolution.
  • Real-world experience optimizing Lighthouse scores without relying solely on pre-rendering.
  • Experience with headless CMS (e.g. Sanity, Contentful) and their integration pipelines.
  • Comfort working with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Vercel, or Netlify) and debugging build/runtime issues.
  • A portfolio or GitHub profile demonstrating advanced work—code snippets or open-source contributions are appreciated.

Bonus Points For

  • Experience contributing to or building design systems with tools like Storybook and Chromatic.
  • Familiarity with edge compute and edge functions (e.g. Vercel Edge Middleware or Cloudflare Workers).
  • Understanding of GraphQL, persisted queries, and schema federation in frontend consumption.
  • Ability to debug Webpack/Vite configuration or write custom Babel transforms (if needed).
  • An informed opinion on why useEffect is overused and when it’s a code smell.
