Senior DevOps Engineer

Job Description

The Purpose

As a Senior DevOps Engineer at AP+, you’ll play a key role in designing, building and continuously improving the infrastructure and integration pipelines that enable secure, scalable and high-performing software delivery across our payments environment. This is a hands-on senior engineering role where you’ll bring expertise across automation, system integration, cloud infrastructure, deployment and observability, while helping evolve the tools and practices that keep our services reliable. You’ll also champion the use of AI-assisted monitoring and automation and support the development of engineers around you.

Key Responsibilities the Role Owns

• Design, develop, test and maintain complex software components, scripts and integration services using secure and standardised engineering practices.
• Lead system integration activities across configuration, testing, fault diagnosis and deployment, ensuring environments and services are ready for reliable operation.
• Provision, configure and optimise infrastructure across physical, virtual and cloud environments, with a strong focus on performance, security and resilience.
• Build automation that removes repetitive administration, improves deployment efficiency and creates more consistent, reliable engineering outcomes.
• Coordinate release and deployment activities, including testing, quality assurance and resolving issues that could impact production readiness.
• Drive improvements across DevOps processes, tooling and observability, including the practical use of AI-assisted monitoring and automation, while mentoring junior engineers.

The capabilities needed to be successful for this role are:

• Education & Certification: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience. Certifications in cloud platforms, DevOps, or scripting languages are desirable
• Experience: Approximately 5+ years in a DevOps or equivalent engineering role, ideally within technology-driven environments(AWS preferred cloud, GCP as secondary)
• AI & Automation: Mastery in AI-enabled tools for software delivery and operations (e.g., AI-assisted coding, testing, anomaly detection) and their ethical, responsible application
• Tooling & Monitoring: Solid knowledge of cloud deployment, automation frameworks, and observability tooling.
• Analytical & Problem-Solving: Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and performance optimisation skills
• Mentoring: Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives and mentor junior engineers.
• Collaboration & Communication: Implements stakeholder engagement/communications plan. Collects and uses feedback from customers and stakeholders to help measure the effectiveness of stakeholder management.
• Industry Insight (Desirable): Exposure to payments or financial technology environments is an advantage

Technical Proficiency

• Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and automation frameworks, (Gitlab CI preferred).
• Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform, OpenTofu or CDK.
• Skilled in scripting languages including Bash, Python or GoLang.
• Familiar with container orchestration(Kubernetes/ECS) and major cloud platforms (AWS preferred)Deep understanding of event-driven and microservices architectures.
• Strong working knowledge on technologies including GitOps(ArgoCD), Observability(Dynatrace), Security Tooling(Wiz) etc.
