Job Description

About the Role

We are seeking a decisive, delivery-oriented Scrum Master who thrives in ambiguity, escalates blockers before they stall teams, and uses metrics to hold squads accountable for throughput and predictability. This role goes beyond ceremony facilitation — it’s for someone who builds delivery muscle into cross-functional squads.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a delivery lead: Partner with Engineering Managers and Product Owners to ensure sprint goals are met and delivered within the iteration window. You’re not afraid to say, “We’re slipping — here’s why.”
  • Remove organizational blockers: Proactively identify and escalate issues outside the squad’s control (e.g., API dependencies, infrastructure delays, external reviews) and work across departments to resolve them.
  • Enforce WIP limits and sprint focus: Ensure the team does not overcommit or allow last-minute scope creep. Push back on patternless ticket flow or “continuous spillover.”
  • Drive delivery metrics: Own the team’s velocity tracking, cycle time, and sprint reliability score. Use this data to trigger conversations about improvement — not just retrospectives.
  • Coach for autonomy: Work with junior product owners, newly formed squads, or teams recovering from low morale to regain delivery rhythm and build trust.
  • Facilitate with intent: Daily standups, backlog refinement, and retrospectives are purposeful and time-bound. No ceremony is “just because we have it.”

Required Skills & Experience

  • 3+ years as a dedicated Scrum Master in high-change agile environments (product companies preferred over IT consulting).
  • Demonstrated experience with metrics-driven delivery (e.g., Monte Carlo forecasting, throughput heat maps, sprint reliability tracking).
  • Strong grasp of agile anti-patterns and a clear strategy for handling: ticket churn, rollovers, zombie tickets, and developer overload.
  • Hands-on experience working with Jira (custom dashboards, automation rules) and Confluence for structured documentation.
  • Ability to push back diplomatically — to leadership, product owners, or developers — when the process is compromised for speed or convenience.
  • Proven track record of leading at least two teams concurrently without degrading quality of facilitation or delivery tracking.

Preferred

  • Experience in regulated industries (e.g., finance, healthcare) where auditability and delivery traceability are critical.
  • Certified Scrum Professional (CSP-SM) or equivalent. We value real-world problem-solving over just certification.
