Job Description

We’re seeking a Responsive Web Design Specialist who doesn’t just think in breakpoints but in experiences. This role is for someone who understands the behavioral nuances of mobile users versus desktop users, and how to craft interfaces that respond fluidly—not just look good across devices. You’ll collaborate closely with UX researchers, performance engineers, and CMS developers to build and refine front-end solutions for high-traffic digital products, including eCommerce interfaces, data dashboards, and adaptive content portals.

This position goes beyond HTML/CSS responsiveness—it requires a strategic thinker who understands component flexibility, accessibility implications, and real-time layout adaptation for dynamic content. You should be comfortable in multi-framework environments (React, Vue, or Svelte), know when to use CSS Grid versus Flexbox for layout logic, and proactively propose scalable solutions when wireframes fall short.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Translate complex wireframes and design systems into responsive, production-ready components.
  • Implement adaptive layouts with semantic HTML5 and modern CSS (Grid, Flexbox, clamp(), container queries).
  • Optimize for varied interaction patterns (hover vs. tap, orientation changes, viewport constraints).
  • Work with designers to suggest improvements on UI/UX based on technical feasibility and performance metrics.
  • Implement responsive best practices in SPAs and server-rendered apps (Next.js, Nuxt).
  • Maintain accessibility standards (WCAG 2.2), especially across varying screen sizes and input types.
  • Collaborate with backend teams to ensure responsive designs adapt to real-time content variations.
  • Conduct responsive testing using emulators and physical device labs.
  • Contribute to the development and documentation of a responsive component library.

Qualifications:

  • 3–5 years experience in responsive and adaptive web design, ideally on scalable web platforms.
  • Proven expertise with CSS methodologies (BEM, OOCSS, or CSS-in-JS) and preprocessor experience (SASS/SCSS).
  • Deep understanding of layout mechanics, including container queries and logical properties (e.g., margin-block, inset-inline).
  • Experience with JavaScript frameworks like React, Vue, or Svelte and their styling ecosystems.
  • Strong grasp of performance optimization techniques (lazy loading, image srcset/sizes, responsive fonts).
  • Solid understanding of accessibility standards and how they apply to fluid layouts.
  • Familiarity with tools like Storybook, Figma tokens integration, and design-to-code workflows.
  • Experience implementing responsiveness in CMS-driven environments (e.g., Contentful, Sanity, or headless WordPress).
  • Portfolio or code samples demonstrating dynamic layout responsiveness and complex component behavior across breakpoints.
