Junior Software Engineer (Data/AI)

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

Search & Analytics Development
• Build and optimise Elasticsearch-based search and analytics features.
• Improve performance and reliability of reporting functionality.

Modernising Legacy Systems
• Migrate Microsoft Access–based systems into modern, scalable solutions.

Tech Stack Evolution
• Contribute to the ongoing modernisation of applications, infrastructure, and data pipelines.

Data Processing & Integration
• Clean, transform, and integrate large, messy datasets from multiple sources.
• Make real‑world data accurate, usable, and reliable.

End‑to‑End Development
• Design, build, test, and deploy features across the full stack.

Teamwork & Stakeholder Engagement
• Collaborate with a small development team.
• Work directly with internal stakeholders to understand requirements.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications Required:

• 1–2 years of professional software development experience.
•  Genuine interest in data — whether querying databases, writing simple ETL processes, or building search functionality.
• Interest in AI‑driven development practices and a willingness to use AI tools and workflows (e.g., BMAD) to build software more effectively.
• Familiarity with relational databases and SQL; bonus if you’ve worked with Microsoft Access or legacy systems.
• Willingness to learn Elasticsearch or experience with similar search/analytics technologies.
•  Curious, self‑driven, and comfortable investigating problems, reading documentation, and learning independently.
• Able to work autonomously and manage your own work without daily oversight.
•  Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and clear communication skills.

The following are advantageous but not required:

•  Exposure to languages such as Python, C#, .NET, JavaScript, PHP, Go, or VBA.
•  Experience with cloud platforms, containerisation, APIs, BI tools, or third‑party integrations.
• A relevant degree or equivalent practical experience.
