Junior Developer

Job Description

Day-to-day:

• You’ll write clean, maintainable, and efficient code in Golang.
• Support the team by building new features and enhance existing functionality under guidance.

• Learn and apply DevOps practices, processes, and mindsets.
• Use Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to deliver solutions efficiently.
• Document solutions, processes, and technical learnings for continuous team improvement.
• Develop your working knowledge of cloud platforms (GCP).
• Communicate progress, blockers, and technical challenges clearly to the team.
• Research technical solutions to problems and propose improvements.
• Support QA processes, including testing and verifying features.
• Help set up local development tools (IDEs, build tools, linters) according to team standards.
• Work closely with senior developers through pair programming and code reviews.

In this junior role, success is driven by curiosity, eagerness and a strong commitment to learning and growth. Ideally you have:

• A degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or IT and/or 1-2 years of relevant experience.
• Understanding of one or more of the following tools: React, React Native, TypeScript/JavaScript, NEXT JS, CSS and HTML, WebAPI/REST/GraphQL, Golang.
• Knowledge of basic concepts of software development.
• Awareness, knowledge or experience with Agile management tools and methodologies such as Atlassian Jira/Confluence.
• (Highly valued) Experience in the Horse Racing and Wagering industry.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Strong analytical, proactive problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment as well as autonomously on individual tasks.
• A curiosity for new technologies and a commitment to continuous learning
• Demonstrate initiative and a proactive attitude.
• Ability to manage multiple, concurrent tasks, which have competing demands.
• Flexibility to support international and domestic clients outside regular business hours as required
