The Role

We’re looking for a proactive, experienced Software Engineer and Technical Lead who’s excited to take on multiple responsibilities, lead a high-performing software engineering team, and ship features that bring joy to users and value to restaurants. You will provide a mixture of hands-on experience and people leadership. You’ll have real influence, wide scope, and room to grow in a fun and rewarding environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a positive and high-performing team
  • Mentoring team members, help people to grow in their careers
  • Organise and lead the team to deliver EatClub’s strategy
  • Lead architecture and technology choice
  • Code quality, maintaining high standards, test automation, code reviews
  • Be the technical expert in the room on all things backend and cloud

What You’ll Bring

  • Strong proficiency in Java backend development
  • Experience with both building and consuming REST and GraphQL APIs
  • Experienced with building serverless APIs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experienced in communicating with non-technical stakeholders
  • A proactive mindset, ready to roll up your sleeves
  • Proven experience both as a people leader and technical leader
  • Experienced in implementing and following Agile development practice
  • Strong understanding of Software Development principles
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases and query tuning (MySQL, Postgres, etc.)
  • Solid grasp of performance tuning and debugging
  • Proficient in Git
  • Proficient in automated testing and writing testable code
  • Familiar with modern app architectures and design patterns

Bonus Points If You…

  • Have experience with AWS (S3, AppSync, API Gateway, Lambda, etc.)
  • Have experience in building automated CI/CD pipelines
  • Love food, restaurants, and dining out

Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science or a related discipline
  • 3-5 years minimum of post-degree commercial experience as a Technical Lead of a product-focused software engineering team
