Job Description
We’re looking for a Game Designer who thrives on pushing the boundaries of interactive storytelling, system design, and player agency. You’ll join our design team to build systems that challenge conventions, engage players deeply, and bring personality to every interaction. This role goes beyond level creation or scripting mechanics — we want a designer who sees the whole game as a conversation between creator and player. You will work closely with narrative, engineering, art, and UX to prototype, refine, and implement game mechanics that are both intuitive and surprising. The ideal candidate has shipped at least one title with mid-to-high player retention and understands the nuance between what players do and what they feel.
Responsibilities
- Design and iterate on core game systems (progression, combat, economy, etc.) that balance creativity and function
- Drive the conceptual development of new mechanics that reinforce narrative themes and player choice
- Own system documentation, including user flow diagrams, balancing spreadsheets, and prototyping specs
- Collaborate with engineers to tune and test mechanics in real-time engine environments
- Integrate user testing feedback and telemetry to improve engagement, difficulty curves, and onboarding
- Advocate for the player perspective across all design phases, from high-level ideation to final polish
- Mentor junior designers through feedback, playtesting sessions, and design workshops
- Work cross-functionally with narrative designers and UI/UX to ensure cohesion in tone and interaction logic
Qualifications
- 3+ years of professional experience as a game designer on at least one shipped title (PC or console preferred)
- Strong systems thinking — able to design, balance, and evolve systems that remain coherent over long play sessions
- Experience using Unreal, Unity, or a proprietary engine to build and test live features
- Fluent in economy balancing, encounter pacing, and progression loops across different player personas
- Demonstrated ability to communicate design intent clearly through written specs, whiteboard sessions, and rapid prototypes
- Comfortable interpreting analytics and telemetry to inform design changes
- Experience designing around non-linear narrative, open-world structures, or emergent gameplay is a plus
- Bonus: Familiarity with combat design, procedural generation, or sandbox systems
Nice-to-Haves
- Shipped a title that received critical praise for innovation or storytelling
- Prior experience with LiveOps or post-launch tuning based on player behavior
- Background in psychology, systems design, or behavioral economics
