Job Description

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Flash Developer with deep expertise in legacy Flash (ActionScript 2.0 & 3.0) systems and strong experience porting Flash-based assets to modern web environments. This role is critical for maintaining, updating, and migrating Flash-based applications that support interactive educational modules, games, and high-fidelity UI animations originally built for web deployment. Candidates must be fluent in debugging SWF files, decompiling and refactoring legacy code, and interfacing with JavaScript or WebAssembly for output compatibility.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and enhance existing Flash-based applications built with ActionScript 2.0 and 3.0.
  • Decompile and analyze SWF files and reconstruct functionality when source files are missing.
  • Migrate Flash experiences to modern platforms (e.g., HTML5, WebGL, Unity or Ruffle emulator integration).
  • Integrate Flash assets with current tech stacks via bridging methods (e.g., JavaScript proxies or API layers).
  • Optimize performance and loading time of heavy visual assets originally built for Flash runtime.
  • Collaborate with creative teams to preserve interaction fidelity during the migration process.
  • Develop technical documentation for legacy code structure and newly migrated environments.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years of hands-on Flash development experience, including deep knowledge of ActionScript 3.0.
  • Proven experience decompiling, analyzing, and reconstructing SWF files without original FLA sources.
  • Proficient in using tools such as JPEXS Free Flash Decompiler, FlashDevelop, and Animate CC.
  • Demonstrated experience porting Flash applications to HTML5/Canvas/WebGL using frameworks like CreateJS or PixiJS.
  • Strong understanding of how Flash memory management, timeline scripting, and event models work.
  • Familiarity with integrating Flash elements into JavaScript-heavy environments or using WebAssembly-based emulators (e.g., Ruffle).
  • Experience working with animation-heavy projects such as interactive storytelling modules, game mechanics, or educational simulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Unity or other game engines as a Flash-to-modern migration path.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1) for restructured interactive content.
  • Working knowledge of SCORM/xAPI standards if coming from an e-learning background.
  • Comfortable with Git-based version control of binary and decompiled asset sets.
  • Ability to work with legacy documentation and reverse-engineer logic from visual timelines and movie clips.
