DevOps Engineer (APS6/EL1) – Cyber Security Program

Job Description

This role is responsible for designing, building, and operating secure, scalable cloud and hybrid platforms supporting mission-critical systems. You will work within a high-security environment, applying DevOps best practices to enable automation, improve delivery pipelines, and enhance system resilience.
Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, deploy, and manage secure cloud and hybrid infrastructure (AWS/Azure)
• Implement and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and automation frameworks
• Build, optimise, and maintain CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI or similar)
• Develop and maintain scripts using Python, Bash, or PowerShell
• Deploy and manage containerised applications using Docker and Kubernetes
• Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions (e.g. Prometheus, ELK)
• Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders to troubleshoot issues and streamline delivery
• Support incident response, operational monitoring, and continuous improvement
• Ensure solutions align with security, compliance, and ASD standards

Required Skills & Experience

• Proven experience delivering ICT solutions across cloud and hybrid environments
• Strong understanding of:
  • Networking, segmentation, and security architecture
  • Identity and access management (IAM)
  • Encryption and secure system design
  • Cloud models (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS)
• Hands-on expertise with:
  • Terraform / CloudFormation / Ansible
  • CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI)
  • Docker & Kubernetes
  • Git version control
• Strong scripting capability in Python, Bash, or PowerShell
• Experience in automation, system optimisation, and incident response
