Job Description
We’re seeking a Database Administrator (DBA) who is as comfortable architecting robust database environments as they are troubleshooting subtle performance issues under pressure. In this role, you will be the steward of our critical data assets—designing, optimizing, securing, and evolving our database infrastructure to meet real-world business demands without sacrificing stability or speed. This is not a role for someone who only reacts; we want a proactive partner who anticipates challenges and builds systems to prevent them.
Job Requirements
- Mastery in managing enterprise-grade relational databases such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, or Microsoft SQL Server, including complex upgrades and migrations that demand zero downtime.
- Hands-on experience designing database schemas and indexing strategies optimized for high throughput, low latency, and massive concurrency.
- Deep understanding and implementation of advanced backup, recovery, and disaster recovery plans—including geographically distributed replication and automated failover.
- Expertise in scripting (Python, PowerShell, Bash) to automate monitoring, alerting, and routine maintenance tasks, aiming for a hands-off, self-healing database environment.
- Proficiency in database monitoring tools and custom dashboards (e.g., Grafana with Prometheus) that track query performance, deadlocks, resource usage, and other health metrics.
- Proven ability to secure databases with role-based access, encryption at rest and in transit, audit logging, and compliance with regulations such as GDPR or HIPAA.
- Experience embedding database management into CI/CD pipelines to enable smooth, automated schema migrations and version control alongside application deployments.
- Comfortable managing hybrid infrastructures combining cloud-managed services (AWS RDS, Azure SQL) with on-premise systems and executing seamless migration strategies.
- Strong interpersonal skills to translate complex database topics for engineering teams, management, and other stakeholders.
- Passion for continuous learning, innovation, and adopting new tools or practices that enhance database reliability and efficiency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field preferred; equivalent hands-on experience is highly valued.
- Minimum 5 years of direct DBA experience in production environments supporting business-critical applications.
- Proven experience in large-scale, transactional database environments with 24/7 uptime requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex performance issues using query analysis, execution plans, and resource contention diagnostics.
- Solid knowledge of SQL tuning, partitioning strategies, and concurrency controls.
- Experience with cloud-based database services and hybrid architectures.
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) a plus.
- Certifications such as Oracle DBA, Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator, or AWS Certified Database Specialty are a strong advantage.
