Job Description

We’re building a visually distinct universe, and we’re looking for a Concept Artist with a strong visual storytelling sense who thrives in the ambiguity of early development. If you obsess over environment shapes that echo character psychology, or design props that hint at untold lore, you’ll fit right in. This role is not about simply producing “cool” images — it’s about anchoring creative direction through design choices that support narrative and gameplay needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Translate rough ideas, mood boards, and narrative themes into compelling visual explorations — from sprawling cityscapes to intimate interior corners.
  • Develop shape language, visual motifs, and design frameworks that scale across environments, characters, and key props.
  • Iterate quickly and visually articulate “what ifs” — multiple reads of the same location or character, experimenting with tone, architecture, history, and utility.
  • Contribute to the “why” behind the visual direction — participate in visual pitch sessions, internal critiques, and documentation.
  • Work closely with 3D, narrative, and level design to ensure your concepts are not just beautiful, but also buildable and purposeful.
  • Own visual R&D in early phases — from sketch ideation to highly polished paintovers for key scenes.

Requirements:

  • Strong portfolio demonstrating worldbuilding through visual design. We’re less interested in rendered illustrations and more focused on ideation, clarity of thought, and range.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and follow a visual direction, while proposing intelligent alternatives.
  • Experience working in animation, game dev, or cinematic worldbuilding (2+ years preferred, but we prioritize quality over years).
  • Comfortable creating at different fidelity levels — thumbnails, orthos, design callouts, and cinematic frames.
  • Familiarity with real-world architecture, fashion, and industrial design, with the ability to abstract and stylize meaningfully.
  • Bonus: Experience with 3D blockouts (Blender, Gravity Sketch, etc.) as part of your ideation process.

Pluses (Not Required):

  • Experience developing visual bibles or style guides from scratch.
  • Prior work in speculative fiction, alternate histories, or stylized contemporary settings.
  • Cross-discipline curiosity — you’ve dabbled in narrative design, game mechanics, or motion.
