Job Description

Role Overview

We’re seeking a Concept Artist who can design more than just “cool characters.” You’ll shape the visual DNA of new worlds. Your work will inform narrative, game mechanics, lighting pipelines, and even marketing beats. If your ideation process is as strong as your brushwork—and you can pivot between photobash, 3D blockout, and traditional sketching without blinking—we’d love to hear from you.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Translate high-level narrative, gameplay constraints, and production needs into visual concepts that inform production across departments.
  • Create rapid ideation sketches, moodboards, and visual targets before refining into presentation-grade paintings.
  • Work with the art director and writers to design environments that convey story through structure, not just ornament.
  • Invent artifacts, props, interfaces, and vehicles that imply a consistent underlying culture, technology, or ecosystem.
  • Use Blender, SketchUp, or kitbashing workflows for accurate space and lighting mockups when needed.
  • Occasionally break your own rules—because the best ideas aren’t always in the brief.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience in game, animation, or VFX pipelines with a strong emphasis on worldbuilding design, not just polish.
  • Portfolio that shows clear thinking, reference integration, and visually distinct ideas, not iterations of existing IPs.
  • Mastery of Photoshop (or equivalent), with demonstrable experience in combining 2D and 3D workflows.
  • Comfortable collaborating with level designers and technical artists to ensure visual ideas survive implementation.
  • Ability to defend your creative decisions in critique—without becoming defensive.
  • Understanding of lighting, color theory, form language, and material breakup as they relate to storytelling.

Bonus (Not Required, but Cool)

  • Experience building pitch decks or art bibles for early-stage IP.
  • Proficiency in Notion or Miro for idea tracking and collaborative moodboarding.
  • Experience working on stylized or non-realistic art styles without relying on clichés.
  • Prior work on a title that launched and survived public critique.
