Job Description

We’re looking for a Backend Developer who thrives in designing systems that quietly do the heavy lifting. You’ll be building the APIs, services, and data pipelines that support our AI-driven logistics platform used by supply chain teams across six countries. This isn’t a plug-and-play microservice job — we’re rethinking how real-time inventory data is ingested, reconciled, and exposed to clients with milliseconds of tolerance. You’ll be expected to bring deep technical insight, challenge existing architecture, and own problems until they’re solved — not just until they compile.

You’ll collaborate closely with a tight-knit team of frontend engineers, data scientists, and domain experts who care more about clean architecture and problem-solving than meeting sprint velocity goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect and maintain scalable backend services using Python (FastAPI) and PostgreSQL, deployed on AWS Fargate.
  • Design and document RESTful and asynchronous APIs to serve real-time client dashboards and internal ML systems.
  • Optimize message queues and data flows using Kafka and Redis, focusing on latency under heavy concurrent load.
  • Partner with data engineering to create ETL pipelines and event-driven workflows.
  • Write integration and load tests with a clear understanding of the system’s performance characteristics under real-world scenarios.
  • Participate in architecture reviews, bringing both technical insight and a strong product perspective.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 4+ years of backend development experience in a production environment, ideally with cloud-native services.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and deploying APIs with FastAPI, Flask, or a similar Python-based framework.
  • Strong experience with PostgreSQL, including query optimization and hands-on schema design for high-write systems.
  • Comfortable working with Kafka, Redis, or equivalent tools in a high-throughput environment.
  • Proficient with containerization and deployment tools: Docker, Terraform, GitHub Actions.
  • Knows the difference between eventual consistency and a race condition — and when to accept one to avoid the other.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience working with event-driven architectures and CQRS patterns.
  • Exposure to OpenTelemetry or similar tools for distributed tracing.
  • Background in supporting ML or data science teams with service infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with domain-driven design (DDD) and ability to articulate trade-offs in layered architectures.
