Job Description

We’re looking for a backend developer who thrives on designing systems that don’t just work — they scale, recover, and expose issues before anyone notices. You’ll take ownership of services that ingest millions of data points daily, ensure internal APIs are predictable and versioned cleanly, and design logic that doesn’t require five levels of nesting to read.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect and implement internal APIs that serve multiple product teams with zero downtime SLAs
  • Manage and optimize PostgreSQL schemas with deep understanding of indexes, query planning, and data lifecycle
  • Lead initiatives for background processing systems (e.g., Celery, Sidekiq, or custom job runners) that are observable and fault-tolerant
  • Collaborate with DevOps to implement auto-scaling strategies for services under inconsistent load
  • Review and rewrite legacy business logic with an eye for testability, clarity, and future-proofing
  • Own uptime, performance metrics, and error rates for all backend services you touch
  • Push back when the spec doesn’t make sense — and help make it better

You Should Apply If You Have:

  • 3+ years working in backend roles involving production services in a microservices environment
  • Mastery of Python (Django, FastAPI) or Node.js (NestJS, Express), and comfort diving into both when needed
  • Hands-on experience designing RESTful APIs and understanding trade-offs of GraphQL where applicable
  • Proficiency with PostgreSQL, including query tuning, migrations, and stored procedures
  • Familiarity with event-driven architecture using Kafka, RabbitMQ, or equivalent
  • A habit of writing integration tests as you go, not as an afterthought
  • Strong Git hygiene and a documented commit history you’re proud of

Nice to Have (But Not Dealbreakers):

  • Prior experience implementing multi-tenant systems
  • Understanding of eventual consistency and idempotent request handling
  • Exposure to Go or Rust for systems-level services
  • Contributions to open-source backend libraries or tooling
