Job Description
We’re looking for an Art Director who can orchestrate high-concept visual storytelling with a clear strategic backbone. You will lead the ideation and execution of brand campaigns, product launches, and digital experiences that challenge industry tropes and avoid the safe middle. This is not a job for someone who just wants to “own the look”—you will shape the why, and drive the creative narrative from concept through delivery across channels. You’ll be paired with a copy partner and supported by a design team, but will be expected to set the creative bar, sell ideas internally, and defend bold choices with logic and heart.
Responsibilities
- Concept, pitch, and develop cross-platform campaigns that reflect a deep understanding of our audience, product, and cultural moment.
- Set visual direction across branding, digital, print, and environmental design with an emphasis on clarity, originality, and intent.
- Lead and mentor designers, illustrators, photographers, and freelancers with a focus on narrative coherence, not just executional polish.
- Collaborate with strategy, marketing, and product teams to ensure creative ideas are relevant, not just “cool.”
- Present and defend work to stakeholders, framing creative decisions through a business and cultural lens.
- Oversee photo/video shoots, storyboards, and production to ensure visual integrity from concept through post.
- Push for unusual formats, unexpected platforms, or experimental tactics when appropriate—but always grounded in purpose.
Qualifications
- 6+ years of experience in a creative or design leadership role, including at least 2 years managing other creatives.
- A portfolio that shows depth of thought, not just breadth of style—concept-first work that resists clichés.
- Experience directing large-scale campaigns across digital, print, and experiential channels.
- Strong typography, layout, and visual identity systems skills—plus the ability to break the rules intentionally.
- Comfort working within and evolving an established brand framework—knowing when to color inside the lines and when to redraw them.
- Demonstrated ability to lead productive critiques, guide junior creatives, and inspire with clarity rather than ambiguity.
- Fluent in Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, and some familiarity with motion/3D tools (bonus, not required).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills—able to sell work, challenge feedback, and stand by bold decisions.
Bonus Points For:
- Experience working in a product-led or tech-adjacent brand
- Prior art direction in editorial or long-form storytelling formats
- Fluency in motion design principles or collaboration with animation teams
