Job Description
About the Role
We’re seeking an Art Director who isn’t just fluent in aesthetics, but obsessed with visual systems that shift perception, provoke curiosity, and unify cross-channel experiences. You’ll partner with writers, designers, motion artists, and product leads to shape narratives that are both creatively brave and commercially grounded. This isn’t a slide-polishing role — we’re looking for someone who can go from moodboards to motion comps, from sketch to shoot direction, and still show up with fresh energy for feedback sessions.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the visual concepting process from pitch to production for campaigns spanning digital, experiential, and out-of-home.
- Develop brand platforms that evolve identity systems while staying strategically on-brief.
- Lead creative reviews, providing clear direction to junior designers, stylists, illustrators, and production vendors.
- Translate abstract ideas into bold visual metaphors — whether through photography treatments, editorial design, or art installation mockups.
- Create storyboards for motion spots and set visual references for directors and editors.
- Ensure design coherence across formats, knowing when to break templates and when to enforce them.
- Push for unexpected formats — QR codes on produce, building projections, typographic interventions — and advocate for ideas that don’t feel safe.
- Partner with strategy and production to anticipate how concepts scale, budget, and land in the real world.
We’re Looking For
- 6–9 years of experience in design or art direction within a creative agency, editorial platform, or brand studio.
- A portfolio that shows conceptual thinking, not just surface polish. We want to see how you built an idea, not just how you wrapped it.
- Deep understanding of typography, grid systems, and spatial hierarchy.
- Hands-on ability with Adobe CC, Figma, and familiarity with motion tools like After Effects or collaborating in Notch/C4D workflows.
- Proven experience with photo and video shoots — from casting to set direction.
- Confident presentation skills and a sharp visual vocabulary; you can talk clients out of clichés without sounding like a snob.
- Curiosity for emerging formats — you notice how Gen Z treats Canva like a meme-generator, and you take it seriously.
Bonus Points
- Experience working on brand campaigns that intersect with architecture, fashion, or performance.
- Familiarity with generative design tools or AI-assisted creative workflows (e.g., Midjourney, Runway, DALL·E).
- You’ve worked with creative technologists and aren’t afraid of pixels doing unexpected things.
