About the Role
We’re looking for an Animator who doesn’t just move keyframes but brings intentional motion design thinking to everything from product explainers to emotionally charged brand stories. You’ll collaborate closely with writers, illustrators, sound designers, and engineers to deliver animations that do more than look good — they communicate, convert, and sometimes disrupt.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate scripts and storyboards into rich, narrative animations — not just motion for motion’s sake
- Develop animation systems that are scalable for multi-platform campaigns (e.g., 15s IG story, 90s hero video, 6s pre-roll)
- Rig and animate characters with unique movement styles; if you’re just swapping puppets, this isn’t the role for you
- Design fluid transitions and camera moves that enhance story beats, not mask weak timing
- Collaborate with sound designers to build animation and audio in lockstep — sound isn’t an afterthought here
- Participate in design reviews with product, brand, and marketing teams; present your rationale clearly, beyond aesthetics
- Continuously refine internal libraries of reusable motion assets and build logic into templates where appropriate
Required Skills and Experience
- Mastery of After Effects (including expressions), Photoshop, Illustrator, and either Blender or Cinema 4D
- Strong understanding of timing, squash and stretch, anticipation, and other principles that create weight and clarity
- At least one shipped project that includes character-driven animation and environment interaction
- Experience animating UI/UX flows with a strong understanding of usability and rhythm
- Strong story sense — you can identify and fix where a beat drags or where a visual metaphor isn’t working
- Comfort working from rough sketches or jumping in when the storyboard isn’t “locked”
- Ability to adapt visual style to match different tones and brand guidelines — flexibility is critical
Nice to Have
- Experience building lightweight Lottie animations for web
- Familiarity with scripting in After Effects (JavaScript-based) to automate workflows
- Experience with cel animation or hybrid workflows (frame-by-frame within AE or Photoshop)
- Previous experience in a startup or fast-paced production environment with shifting priorities
- Sound design skills or a strong working vocabulary when collaborating with audio teams
