Your new role

As the Cloud Architect (Azure & Infrastructure), you will be responsible for designing and governing end‑to‑end technical solutions across a portfolio of initiatives and projects. You will translate business requirements into secure, resilient, and supportable solutions, ensuring alignment with Council’s enterprise architecture direction, standards, roadmaps, and governance frameworks.

This role plays a key part in strengthening Council’s digital infrastructure and cloud platform architecture, encompassing Azure public cloud, hybrid connectivity, identity and access management, networking, security controls, observability tooling, and disaster recovery capabilities. You will work closely with delivery teams, vendors, and operational stakeholders to ensure solutions are successfully delivered, transitioned into operations, and effectively adopted, supporting sustainable and scalable outcomes for the organisation.

What you’ll need to succeed

Essential Experience

• Demonstrated experience working as a Solution or Cloud Architect, delivering complex, multi‑stream technology initiatives within enterprise environments.
• Proven ability to translate business and functional requirements into implementation‑ready technical designs that are pragmatic, secure, and aligned to organisational outcomes.
• Strong experience operating within enterprise and domain architecture frameworks, standards, and governance processes, including the preparation of architectural artefacts for formal assurance and review boards (e.g. Architecture Assurance Board).
• Experience designing end‑to‑end solutions from early concept and architecture through to delivery and operational handover, ensuring solutions are supportable and aligned to the target operating model.

Azure Cloud & Hybrid Capability

• Demonstrated, hands-on understanding of Microsoft Azure IaaS and PaaS services, with the ability to architect solutions for resilience, security, scalability, and operational effectiveness.
• Strong knowledge of cloud and hybrid networking, security configuration, firewall technologies, and identity and access management (Azure Active Directory / Entra ID).
• Experience designing and governing monitoring, observability, backup and recovery, and cost management approaches to ensure reliable, secure, and cost-effective cloud platforms.
