Job Description

The Engineering Institute of Technology (EIT) is looking for a proactive and enthusiastic Junior IT Specialist to join our IT department. This is a great opportunity to work with an international education organisation on a trajectory of growth. 

As our Junior IT Specialist, you’ll play a hands-on role in ensuring the smooth operation of our technology systems. Your responsibilities will include installing and upgrading hardware components, configuring software, supporting network administration, and resolving day-to-day IT support requests.

This is a full-time, on-site position based at our West Perth office, where you’ll provide direct support to local staff. You’ll also offer remote assistance to our teams in Melbourne, Brisbane, and the Philippines, helping maintain seamless IT operations across the organisation.

Duties will include

  • Assisting with server crashes, setting up new servers, hardware configuration and streamlining IT systems. 
  • Assisting with network administration tasks. 
  • Controlling and evaluating IT. 
  • Perform general troubleshooting for staff and students. 
  • Educating coworkers about network security and best practices for computer usage. 
  • Maintaining data security, network access and backup systems. 
  • Auditing systems and assessing their outcomes. 
  • Supporting the day-to-day operations with servers and infrastructure. 
  • Preserving assets, information security and control structures. 
  • Assist the technical team with admin requirements
  • Ensuring staff IT infrastructure compliance
  • Availability during exam/assessment periods for student technical support
  • Coordinate the technical components of staff onboarding and offboarding
  • Quality assurance testing for new system deployments and patches
  • Assist with other day-to-day ad hoc tasks. 

Essential Criteria

  • Ability to learn fast: EIT employs a myriad of different information systems that exhibit numerous integrations.  
  • Problem-solving skills: Strong analytical and diagnostic skills. Resourcefulness and troubleshooting aptitude.
  • Strong communication: A Strong grasp of the English language is a must. The ability to also convey technical activities to those who are not as tech-savvy is critical. Supporting less technical staff and students is essential.  
  • Customer service: The ability to assist students and staff under pressure is essential. Response times should be quick to a query or request that comes in.  
  • Care in development: Ensuring all activities are carefully communicated, documented, and all code is commented appropriately.   
  • Flexibility with hours: If an incident occurs in an information system outside of normal working hours, they must be able to jump in and assist.  
  • Team player: The ability to work in a team environment with technical, sales/marketing and administrative staff members.   
  • Attention to detail: Takes the time to ensure tasks are completed competently.
