Software Engineer

Job Description

The business is currently undergoing a period of rapid growth and requires a full-time Software Engineer to join the team. This is a hybrid role based in Brisbane; working from home is supported, but spending regular time in the office with the engineering team and operational users is considered key to successful collaboration.

The Opportunity

• Take responsibility for the hands-on design, development, and delivery of software solutions across the company’s technology function.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of our core platforms, including our internal web application and practitioner Progressive Web Application (PWA).
• Write clean, secure, scalable, and maintainable code to shift the Medbill application ecosystem toward a SaaS model.
• Participate actively in the full software development life cycle, from requirements gathering to deployment, automated testing, and support.
• Review existing cloud-based systems and implement improvements to support scalability, security, and maintainability.
• Identify opportunities to automate manual workflows and improve operational efficiency.
• Utilise AI agentic toolsets (such as Claude Code, OpenCode, Gemini CLI, or Codex) to enhance productivity and accelerate delivery.
• Work collaboratively with operational teams and communicate clearly regarding task progress and technical blockers.

Your Skills and Experience

• Proven commercial experience (typically 3+ years) in software engineering roles.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js for back-end development.
• Hands-on experience building and deploying on AWS, including familiarity with ECS, Lambda, Aurora, and AWS CDK.
• Experience contributing to modern web and mobile applications, with familiarity in React or React-based frameworks being beneficial.
• Solid understanding of relational databases like PostgreSQL and building or consuming RESTful APIs.
• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing such as Jest, and Git-based version control.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to operate with a healthy balance of autonomy and teamwork.
• Desirable: Previous experience or familiarity with the health care, medical billing, or insurance domains.
