PHP Developer

Job Description

This role suits someone who enjoys mentoring others, setting standards, planning work effectively, and contributing wherever necessary to ensure successful outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and deployment of software applications.
• Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code, and undertake code reviews.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements, define technical specifications, and plan feature rollouts.
• Work closely with Software Support and Operations teams to understand customer pain points and convert feedback into technical improvements.
• Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior developers.
• Coordinate and provide clear direction to off‑shore development teams, including task breakdowns, coding standards, priorities, and expected outcomes.
• Contribute to project planning, including estimations, sprint planning, sequencing of work, and dependency management.
• Ensure effective communication and collaboration between on‑shore and off‑shore teams.
• Oversee system architecture decisions and ensure adherence to best practices in coding, testing, documentation, and security.
• Manage version control workflows (Git) and deployment processes.
• Maintain technical documentation and support internal knowledge sharing.
• Participate in debugging and resolution of escalated support issues.
• Act as a team player, contributing hands‑on wherever required to support delivery and team success.
• Stay up to date with emerging technologies and recommend tools that improve efficiency and product quality.

About You

You’re an experienced, hands‑on developer who enjoys leading by example and providing structure and clarity to technical teams.

You will bring:

• Strong proficiency in vanilla PHP and JavaScript
• Solid understanding of MySQL, APIs, and web application architecture
• Experience with Git, build tools, and deployment pipelines
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies, sprint planning, and distributed teams
• Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail
• Clear, confident communication skills

Desirable experience includes:

• Working with or leading off‑shore or distributed development teams
• SaaS products or support‑driven environments
• Translating business needs into technical plans and roadmaps
• Payroll or workforce systems (MYOB, Xero)
