Visual Illustrator
Job Description
Overview:
We’re seeking a Visual Illustrator with a strong conceptual approach and a sharp eye for storytelling through visual design. This role demands a deep understanding of composition, visual pacing, and the ability to distill abstract ideas into compelling illustrations for use across editorial, marketing, and product interfaces. You should be as comfortable creating tightly-rendered vector artwork as you are sketching loose storyboards or atmospheric scenes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Translate creative briefs and abstract concepts into impactful illustrations that elevate brand messaging
- Collaborate with art directors, UX designers, and copywriters to develop cohesive visual narratives
- Produce style-consistent illustrations across campaigns and product experiences
- Maintain and evolve brand illustration systems, from editorial sets to interface icons and character assets
- Participate in internal critique sessions and adapt artwork based on nuanced feedback
- Balance creativity with production timelines and deliverables
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Illustration, Visual Arts, or equivalent professional experience
- 3–5 years of experience creating illustrations for tech, publishing, or brand storytelling environments
- Demonstrated ability to illustrate for different contexts: editorial spreads, mobile UI, animated sequences, and branding
- Strong drawing fundamentals, particularly in gesture, perspective, and visual hierarchy
- Mastery of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop; familiarity with Figma and After Effects is a strong plus
- Experience working within an established visual language while being able to push it forward
- Portfolio must include at least one project showing:
- An end-to-end illustration process (initial sketches to final execution)
- A series of illustrations tied by a visual system or narrative logic
- A style shift or system extension developed for a specific audience or platform
Preferred (but not required):
- Experience working with animation teams or creating assets for motion
- Prior collaboration on game art, editorial features, or museum exhibition visuals
- Knowledge of visual accessibility principles in illustration
