Job Description

As Senior Data Scientist / Data Solutions Engineer, you’ll form part of the Transparency group and be instrumental in ensuring real-time visibility of cashback tracking and attribution for millions of transactions. A high impact role that will directly impact Rakuten Rewards members’ experience by making sure they receive their rewards seamlessly and transparently.

You’ll build real-time models that process disparate events throughout the customer journey to deliver instant cashback to consumers, and work on cutting-edge challenges in fraud technology, payment analytics, operational analytics, and performance optimisation.

As part of this you will analyse large-scale transaction data to identify tracking gaps, design experiments to test hypotheses, and develop strategies to enhance real-time tracking capabilities. Your insights will drive improvements in Rakuten Rewards’ attribution models and optimise the overall member experience.


What you Bring to the Role

We’re looking for someone with a blend of technical expertise and business acumen that thrives using their Data Science and Machine Learning expertise for real-world business impact. You enjoy presenting data driven performance trends and insights to key stakeholders, and collaborating closely with global business leaders and product managers to define strategies, design experiments and translate insights into actions.  

Some of the things we are looking for:

  • Exceptional and eloquent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and business audiences, including C-level executives.
  • Proven track record in data-driven decision-making and improving business processes.
  • Strong foundation in SQL, Python, and machine learning techniques and using tools such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn.
  • Hands-on experience with ML implementation – building solutions that provide tangible business value.
  • Experience building complex dashboards and conducting deep analyses using SQL and Python.
  • Ideally some experience applying AI solutions to business problems including exposure to LLMs and generative AI.  If you don’t *yet* have this experience, this is your chance to gain first-hand experience in this space!
  • Someone that has the ability to work independently and adapt to a fast-paced environment, while engaging effectively with senior leadership.
