Job Description
We’re looking for a Production Artist who thrives on precision and can navigate the creative chaos of packaging and retail design with laser-sharp focus. You’ll be part of a team that brings concepts into the real world — where pantones matter, dielines rule, and “just print it” isn’t good enough.
This is not a design role masquerading as production. We’re not looking for someone who wants to eventually “move up” into design — we want a production specialist who loves the details and understands that execution is a craft of its own.
What You’ll Actually Do
- Prepare final mechanical files for packaging, in-store displays, and signage — using existing designs and strict brand standards
- Modify dielines based on vendor specs and confirm print feasibility with supply chain partners
- Review and apply accurate UPCs, legal copy, and translation layers without breaking layout integrity
- Ensure consistent typography, color specs, and image placement across SKUs and campaigns
- Preflight files, package them according to printer requirements, and upload to production management systems
- Cross-check files using digital proofing platforms and annotate corrections with absolute clarity
What We Need You to Already Know
- You’ve worked on actual consumer packaging before — folding cartons, labels, maybe even flexible film. Retail signage is a plus.
- You can spot a misaligned baseline or low-res image before the art director even notices
- You understand CMYK, spot color, overprint settings, knockout text, and why trapping still matters
- You know how to adapt files for multiple print vendors, each with their own quirks and press tolerances
- You’ve handled 30+ SKUs with small variations without introducing chaos or inconsistency
Must-Have Tools & Experience
- 3+ years in a production artist role (agency or in-house CPG brand)
- Expert in Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Acrobat Pro (Photoshop only when necessary)
- Familiarity with Esko, DALIM, or other prepress/digital proofing systems
- Comfort working in Wrike, Asana, or a similar project management platform
- Understanding of FDA/USDA packaging copy guidelines is a big plus
Nice to Have
- Experience creating packaging for multilingual markets (especially French/Spanish compliance)
- Familiarity with sustainable packaging standards and materials
- Background in vendor communication or ability to read a printer’s press spec sheet without flinching
