About the Role

We’re looking for a Junior Data Engineer to join our data team and contribute to building a modern, cloud-based data platform that supports analytics, modelling, reporting, and AI across the business.

You’ll work closely with Data Analysts, Architects, and Engineers to develop data pipelines, transform data from multiple sources, and ensure that data is accessible, reliable, and well-governed. This is a hands-on role suited to someone with some prior exposure to data engineering either through industry experience, internships, or academic projects who’s keen to further develop their technical skills in a commercial environment.

Key Responsibilities

Data Ingestion & Integration

  • Assist in building and maintaining scalable data pipelines for structured and unstructured data (e.g., CSV, Excel, APIs, SQL).
  • Contribute to automation of data ingestion from internal systems and external sources using tools such as Azure Data Factory.

Data Lakehouse Development

  • Support the implementation of layered data lake architecture (raw, curated, transformed).
  • Learn to manage schema changes and support data quality processes using Delta Lake and other tools.

Transformation & Collaboration

  • Work with senior engineers and analysts to prepare and model data for business use across teams (e.g., Claims, Policy, Finance).
  • Participate in efforts to optimise performance, cost-efficiency, and scalability of the platform.

Governance & Monitoring

  • Contribute to the monitoring and maintenance of data workflows.
  • Assist with data documentation, metadata tagging, and data quality checks in line with governance frameworks.

What You’ll Bring

  • 2+ years of experience in a data-related role, or exposure in data engineering or analytics.
  • Proficiency in SQL and some experience with Python or PySpark.
  • Exposure to cloud-based data platforms, preferably Azure (e.g., ADF, Synapse, ADLS).
  • Understanding of data integration and modelling concepts (e.g., ETL/ELT, star schemas).
  • Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail, with a drive to learn and grow.
