Job Description

We’re seeking a Game Designer with a deep understanding of systemic gameplay, progression design, and the ability to balance complexity with player clarity. You’ll be responsible for designing and iterating on game mechanics and core loops that support long-term player engagement in a third-person action-adventure game currently in production. This role is highly collaborative and requires someone who thrives on cross-functional problem-solving and hands-on prototyping.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and document core systems including combat loops, resource economies, and progression frameworks.
  • Own the balance and pacing of in-game rewards, challenge scaling, and player incentives.
  • Collaborate with AI, combat, and narrative teams to ensure systems align with gameplay fantasy and world logic.
  • Use scripting tools to prototype mechanics, tune variables, and run in-engine tests.
  • Analyze playtest data and feedback to inform iterative design improvements.
  • Create clean, implementation-ready design specs for engineers and content designers.
  • Maintain consistency of mechanics across game modes and difficulty tiers.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of professional game design experience with at least one shipped title in a systems or combat design role (AA or AAA).
  • Strong portfolio or breakdown demonstrating your design thinking behind core loops, progression, or combat systems.
  • Proficient with scripting or visual logic tools (e.g., Blueprint, Lua, proprietary scripting environments).
  • Comfortable using engine editors (Unreal, Unity, or proprietary) for hands-on implementation.
  • Ability to balance complex systems with accessibility in mind—can break down layered mechanics for diverse player types.
  • Experience with telemetry tools and interpreting player behavior data to drive iteration.
  • Fluent in creating spec docs, tuning spreadsheets, flowcharts, and feedback matrices.
  • Deep familiarity with action-adventure or RPG game structures—can discuss trends in stamina systems, upgrade paths, risk-reward loops, etc.
