Job Summary

We are seeking a Database Administrator with deep experience in managing mission-critical, high-availability database systems in a mixed-platform environment (primarily PostgreSQL and SQL Server). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in performance tuning, replication strategy, infrastructure automation, and data security, with the ability to diagnose complex query performance issues and optimize OLTP and OLAP workloads.

This role will support production systems with zero-downtime expectations and participate in rotating on-call support. Experience in regulated industries (e.g., finance, healthcare) is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and optimize PostgreSQL 14+ and SQL Server 2019+ instances in clustered, replicated, and containerized environments.
  • Develop and maintain backup, high-availability, and disaster recovery strategies (experience with Patroni, pgBackRest, Always On availability groups).
  • Proactively monitor database health using tools such as pg_stat_statements, pgBadger, SQL Server Profiler, or native monitoring suites (e.g., SQL Monitor).
  • Implement role-based access control (RBAC) and encryption strategies in accordance with internal security policies and SOC 2 compliance.
  • Collaborate with DevOps and Data Engineering teams to automate deployment and schema management using tools like Liquibase, Flyway, and Terraform.
  • Participate in schema reviews, indexing strategies, and query optimization for both OLTP and large-scale analytical workloads.
  • Create and maintain documentation for architecture, failover procedures, and change management processes.
  • Support and mentor junior DBAs and developers on best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on DBA experience with at least 2 years focused on PostgreSQL in a high-availability production environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in replication (logical, streaming), table partitioning, and WAL archiving in PostgreSQL.
  • Advanced proficiency in query tuning and execution plan analysis (both PostgreSQL and SQL Server).
  • Solid understanding of ACID principles, isolation levels, and concurrency control.
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure-as-Code for provisioning database instances (Terraform, Ansible preferred).
  • Strong scripting ability in Bash and/or PowerShell; Python is a plus.
  • Familiarity with container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) and running databases in orchestrated environments.
  • Experience working in SOC 2, HIPAA, or ISO 27001-compliant environments.
