The Opportunity: Data Engineer – Events

Join the Events team – the backbone that enables AI, ML and Analytics teams across the organization. You’ll be responsible for infrastructure that ingests and processes billions of events per hour, such as seasonal insights

As a Data Engineer on this cross-functional team, you’ll own the ingress APIs, data pipelines, and downstream data products that power customer event telemetry. Working with both internal and external customers, you’ll have broad impact across the company while collaborating with senior engineers to build systems that operate at world-class scale.

What you’ll do:

  • Build resilient, high-throughput data pipelines that are easy to operate and maintain
  • Create robust data validation pipeline steps ensuring data quality and integrity
  • Implement scalable APIs that allow downstream teams to consume data at massive scale while maintaining infrastructure integrity
  • Own features end-to-end from initial ideation through production deployment
  • Ensure production resilience using comprehensive telemetry and alerting

You could be a fit if you:

  • Possess strong SQL skills and practical database experience
  • Have production experience with data pipelining tools – likely two or more of: Pubsub, Apache Beam, Spark, Airflow, etc.
  • Can author pipeline services in systems languages like Java, Python, Go
  • Thrive in distributed systems – comfortable diving deep into different stack layers to debug issues and improve system understanding, especially in high-throughput environments
  • Are autonomous and ownership-driven – able to make independent decisions and drive long-term project success

Nice to have:

  • Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform
  • Understanding of ML concepts and their practical applications
  • Track record of shipping features in collaborative environments
  • Experience with developer-facing tools or APIs in production
  • Experience with rapid prototyping and iteration
