Job Description

Role Overview:

We are looking for a Concept Artist who thrives on developing visually grounded, narrative-driven environments and props. This role requires a deep understanding of world-building, storytelling through design, and an ability to contribute to the early visual identity of a project. You will work closely with art direction, narrative, and design to create concept art that informs both artistic tone and gameplay functionality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design narrative-heavy environments and props that reflect the culture, economy, and functionality of the world. Each element should tell a story and be integrated into the world logic.
  • Translate written and verbal briefs into visual concepts that serve both narrative and design goals.
  • Create modular environment kits and prop callouts that guide 3D artists and ensure consistency in visual language.
  • Work in tight feedback loops with the art director, narrative team, and level designers, adapting quickly to changes without sacrificing quality.
  • Use perspective, lighting, and material definition intentionally to reinforce mood, hierarchy, and believability.
  • Incorporate gameplay constraints into designs while maintaining visual fidelity and artistic intent.
  • Pitch and defend ideas using visual development packages (thumbnails, sketches, detailed orthos, mood boards).

What We’re Looking For:

  • 3+ years of industry experience in a concept art role for games or film, with an emphasis on environmental storytelling.
  • Portfolio must show:
    • World-building through props and spaces
    • Strong ideation sketches and final production-level concepts
    • Designs grounded in structure, function, and historical or speculative logic
  • Deep understanding of real-world design influences—industrial design, architecture, anthropology, mechanical logic.
  • Proficiency in Photoshop (mandatory), with strong bonus skills in Blender, SketchUp, or other 3D tools for blockouts.
  • Ability to self-critique, receive feedback, and iterate fast without losing sight of the original vision.
  • Experience working with cross-disciplinary teams (narrative, level design, technical art).
