Job Description

We’re looking for a Concept Artist who thrives on visual storytelling through design thinking and artistic experimentation. You won’t be handed generic briefs—you’ll help shape worlds from scratch, sketch out ambiguous ideas into concrete visual direction, and bridge early ideation with production-ready clarity. You’ll be part of a small, multi-disciplinary team building a new IP that blends grounded design with speculative imagination. This role requires strong visual design fundamentals, a cinematic eye, and a flexible, iterative mindset.

You’ll be expected to contribute to everything from moodboards and thumbnails to detailed environment and prop callouts. We’re not looking for “style matchers”—we’re seeking someone who can propose original visual direction while remaining production-aware.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate narrative and gameplay ideas into visual design concepts for characters, environments, props, and vehicles.
  • Create exploratory sketches, iterations, and polished concept illustrations that guide 3D, animation, and lighting teams.
  • Participate in creative development discussions with writers, art directors, and designers to shape the visual language of the world.
  • Develop tone-setting artwork such as keyframes, architectural callouts, or material references as needed.
  • Iterate rapidly in response to feedback, while clearly communicating design decisions and visual logic.
  • Contribute to the evolving art style guide and visual library.
  • Reference real-world design—industrial, fashion, architecture, biology—to ground your designs with believability.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 3+ years of professional experience in concept art for games, animation, or film
  • A portfolio that shows a balance of rough ideation and refined presentation
  • Strong design skills: silhouette, proportion, function, material breakup, and visual hierarchy
  • Experience working with or designing for 3D pipelines (kitbashing, blockouts, photobashing)
  • Ability to propose design solutions, not just depict a brief
  • Comfort designing in a defined visual direction while still pushing the boundaries
  • Proficiency in Photoshop or equivalent 2D tools

Preferred:

  • Experience with Unreal Engine, Blender, or similar 3D tools for blockouts and overpaints
  • Experience working on a new IP from concept to production
  • Familiarity with narrative design and environmental storytelling
  • Ability to communicate your process and defend design decisions with clarity
  • Background in industrial design, architecture, or visual development
