Job Description
What We’re Looking For
We’re not looking for someone to just make things move. We’re looking for someone who understands why they move.
You’re a character animator who can convey emotion through motion. You sweat over a shoulder drop, a foot drag, or a blink that hits two frames early. You understand that animation is acting — not just keyframes. You’re comfortable pushing exaggeration where it needs to be pushed, and you can rein it in when subtlety speaks louder. You can animate a wide-eyed raccoon stealing a sandwich and make us root for it.
We’re building animated content that lives across original shorts, game cinematics, interactive media, and branded worlds. Your job will be to breathe life into characters — not just draw them.
What You’ll Do
- Animate expressive character performances for 2D and/or 3D content (shorts, trailers, interactive sequences).
- Collaborate with storyboard artists, riggers, sound designers, and writers to shape performance and timing.
- Break down scripts into animatable beats; pitch performance ideas before touching keyframes.
- Solve complex motion problems with creative, non-cookie-cutter solutions.
- Use reference — but don’t be limited by it.
- Manage time realistically while never compromising character believability.
- Receive and incorporate notes with clarity, not defensiveness.
Must-Haves
- 3+ years of professional experience in character animation for film, games, or television.
- A standout reel that demonstrates acting, timing, weight, and emotion. (We are not interested in motion graphics reels.)
- Mastery of either 2D (Toon Boom Harmony, TVPaint) or 3D (Maya, Blender). Bonus if you can do both.
- A deep understanding of arcs, spacing, follow-through, and squash/stretch — and how to break those rules on purpose.
- Ability to block, spline, and polish a shot with intentional pacing and emotional beats.
- Familiarity with Lip Sync and Dialogue Animation (not just jaw flaps — real nuance).
- Strong communication skills: can discuss character intent, pitch with clarity, and listen with purpose.
Bonus Points
- Experience animating stylized creatures or animals (beyond walk cycles).
- Experience with layered animation (clean-up, in-betweens, compositing).
- Storyboarding or visual storytelling background.
- Knowledge of Unity/Unreal or game engine pipelines.
- Acting or improv background.
