Job Description
Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Animator with a strong foundation in expressive, stylized movement across 2D and 3D mediums. The ideal candidate will be responsible for breathing life into characters and environments with narrative clarity and visual distinctiveness. This is not a template-driven role—we need someone who can interpret direction and inject character-specific nuance into every frame.
Key Responsibilities:
- Animate stylized characters and objects with intentional weight, rhythm, and gesture in both 2D and 3D environments
- Work closely with character artists, riggers, and storyboard teams to define and push visual storytelling through motion
- Translate rough animatics and motion thumbnails into finished sequences without compromising timing or energy
- Craft expressive loops and transitions for in-game animations, cutscenes, or cinematics, depending on project focus
- Apply animation principles creatively—anticipation, exaggeration, timing, and follow-through—to serve specific character traits
- Address animation feedback iteratively, maintaining consistency with the overall animation direction and style guide
- Utilize proprietary and third-party animation tools (e.g., Maya, Blender, Spine, Toon Boom) efficiently
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience in animation for games, film, or series production
- Demonstrated expertise in stylized animation, with a portfolio that showcases personality-driven motion, not just technical proficiency
- Comfortable animating bipedal, quadruped, and non-humanoid characters; understands anatomy and mechanical motion
- Strong working knowledge of Maya and either Blender, Toon Boom Harmony, or Spine
- Experience with animation layering, keyframe editing, and polish workflows
- Adept at collaborating with rigging and tech art teams to troubleshoot and iterate on rig limitations or enhancements
- Able to take direction and critique constructively without losing individuality in creative execution
- Familiarity with animating in a real-time engine (Unity, Unreal) is strongly preferred
Bonus Qualifications:
- Experience with procedural animation systems or motion capture cleanup
- Familiarity with visual scripting in engines (Blueprints in Unreal or equivalent)
- Background in figure drawing or gesture sketching as a foundation for motion
- Understanding of camera framing and shot composition in relation to movement
