Job Description

About the Role

We’re looking for an animator who can bridge narrative intent with visual motion, translating storyboards and scripts into expressive, precise, and emotionally resonant animation. You’ll be working closely with our directors, sound designers, and tech artists to create short-form and long-form animation assets for campaigns, original content, and platform-native visuals. This is not a pixel-pushing position—we need someone who thinks in timing, pacing, gesture, and silhouette.

Responsibilities

  • Animate character-driven sequences (2D and 2.5D), with a focus on gesture accuracy, emotive clarity, and scene flow
  • Rig and animate UI microinteractions and transitions for use across web, mobile, and video contexts
  • Translate animatics and audio beds into polished motion, refining timing based on feedback from sound sync and narrative beats
  • Collaborate with illustration and design leads to translate static assets into dynamic compositions (expect to animate assets that weren’t built “for animation”)
  • Prototype motion approaches in After Effects, Spine, or Lottie for client and internal presentations
  • Optimize exports for platform (e.g., alpha-channel video, Lottie JSON, WebM)

Must-Have Skills

  • Expertise in After Effects (expressions, puppet tool, shape layer rigging, plugin experience with RubberHose, DUIK, or Limber)
  • Proficiency with Spine, Lottie, or Rive for interactive animation workflows
  • Strong eye for rhythm, easing, and anticipation/release—you obsess over how long a character holds a glance
  • Ability to work from incomplete or messy source assets and build clean animation pipelines
  • Strong understanding of camera mechanics and parallax in 2D space
  • Fluent in interpreting and animating from VO recordings, storyboards, and reference footage

Bonus Skills

  • Frame-by-frame hand-drawn animation chops (Procreate, RoughAnimator, TVPaint)
  • Familiarity with motion scripting and procedural animation systems (e.g., GSAP, AE Expressions, Unity Animators)
  • Experience integrating animation into Unity or Webflow
  • Knowledge of post-processing techniques (camera shake, grain, chromatic aberration, etc.)

Tools You’ll Use

  • After Effects, Illustrator, Photoshop
  • Rive, Spine, or Lottie
  • Figma (for UI/UX context integration)
  • Adobe Audition or Reaper (for timing refinement)
  • Notion and Frame.io (for asset tracking and feedback)

Who You Are

  • You work with intention: every frame you move has a reason
  • You’ve studied both gesture drawing and interface transitions
  • You can speak with designers, engineers, and producers without losing your point
  • You understand the difference between motion that feels good and motion that just moves
